Betty J. Jones

Betty J. Jones, longtime Lithonia resident, passed away on July 28, 2026, at the age of 90. She was born on August 31, 1935, to the late Tom R. and Tommie McSwain Tinsley, and her near-century of life was filled with love for her family and community.

As the owner and operator of Cherie’s Dress Shop in Lithonia, later known as Betty’s Boutique, she shared her passion for fashion while building lasting relationships with her customers. Her shop became a cherished fixture in Lithonia, a testament to her warmth and personal touch that extended far beyond a sale.

Betty’s love for people and her community was reflected in her dedicated involvement with Positive Action for Lithonia (PAL), where she took great pride in serving others and making a difference. Her commitment to the organization led to her election and swearing-in as president in January 1976.

A true bargain-hunter at heart, Betty had a knack for finding treasures during her shopping trips to Goodwill and continued her passion through her still-active antique booth at Ally’s Attic in Lawrenceville. She delighted in going out dancing and playing trivia weekly with her beloved husband, Bill. Betty had a fondness for red birds and was captivated by her unusual barn visitors: two pet buzzards she named Henry and Henrietta, who would faithfully return each year to raise their young.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William A. "Bill" Jones; daughter, Gina Jones; son, Bart Jones; grandson, Trevor Jones; five siblings; and one half-sister.

Betty’s heart belonged foremost to her family, who all affectionately called her “Gran Gran.” Spending time with them was her life's greatest joy. Those she leaves to cherish her memory include her sons and daughters-in-law, Chunk and Tammy Jones, Jeffery Jones and Patricia Quail, Bret and Ami Jones; loving grandchildren, Justin, Jeremy, Amanda, Matthew, Kristen, Nicole, Derek, Jeremy, Jeffery, and Bryce; numerous great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; half-sister, Maryann; half-brother, Johnny; devoted niece, JoAnn Jones; as well as many other nieces, nephews and extended family.

A funeral service to remember and celebrate Betty's life will be held 1 o'clock, Friday, July 31, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Martin officiating. Interment will follow in Rock Chapel Historic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM, Thursday, July 30, and one hour prior to the service on Friday at Henry Funeral Home, Lithonia.
