Berton L. Lakin, 77, of Monroe, GA, passed away peacefully on June 20, 2025, at his daughter's home.
Born on August 21, 1947, in Chicago, IL, Bert was the son of the late Oscar Lakin and Frieda Lakin Sharlin. He was a proud alumnus of the University of Alabama and a devoted fan of the Crimson Tide football program. Bert spent his career as a produce broker at the Atlanta Farmers Market, where he was affectionately known as "Mr. Bert" by coworkers and truck drivers alike.
He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Melissa and Clay Yarbrough, Monica Lakin, and Melanie Lakin; his beloved grandchildren, Cole Yarbrough, Cade Yarbrough, Naia Lakin-Dubrey, and Nakoa Lakin-Waarith; his siblings, Ellyn Schaum, Garry and Maureen Lakin, and Sharon and Neil Goldman; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is also remembered fondly by his friend and former wife, Cece Lakin, and his cherished "Harmony Hill Tribe" — along with the many lives he touched through that community.
Arrangements are being handled by Henry Funeral Home in Lithonia, GA. A private memorial will be held at a later date.
Music was one of Bert's greatest joys, and he took immense pride in supporting his grandchildren's musical talents. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Morgan County High School Band Program, 1231 College Dr., Madison, GA 30650.
