Ben Hammonds, age 84, of Social Circle, died Wednesday, December 19, 2018. He was an active member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Conyers and Rutledge for many years. Ben served his country honorably in the United States Air Force and retired as a salesman for Navistar International after many years of service. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan and rarely missed watching their games. Ben was preceded in death by his first wife, Jeanne Hilliker Hammonds. Surviving are his wife, Myrle Hammonds; daughter, Linda McCubrey and her husband, Creighton, of Conyers; son, Stephen Hammonds and his wife, Rebecca, of Covington; step-daughter, Terri Rowell of Edgewater, FL; step-son, Robert Rowell and his wife, Mary, of Portland, OR; sister, Myrtle Lee of Stockbridge; brother, Bernard Hammonds and his wife, Darlene, of Luthersville; grandchildren, Jonathan Sparks, Jessica and Brandon Tanner, Lisa and Clayton Ray, Shelby Hammonds, Erik Sparks, Lexy Forbes, and Caitlyn Forbes; great-grandchildren, Abbygale Ray, Della Ray, Harley Ray, Sloane Tanner, Zander Ray, Piper Tanner; nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held 12, noon, Saturday, December 29, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Steven Chambers officiating. The family will receive friends 10:30-12:00 Saturday morning prior to the service at the funeral home. After the service, family and friends are cordially invited to the home of Creighton and Linda's for food and fellowship.
