Anita Abbott Mitchell, age 86, of Covington, died Tuesday, October 22, 2019. She was born in Lithonia to James Grady Abbott and Ruth Lucille Housworth Abbott and attended Lithonia High School. Anita was a member of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia, where she attended for many years. She was an avid reader and enjoyed gospel music, especially listening to her brother-in-law, Hovie Lister and the Statesmen Quartet. Anita was known for her red velvet cake that was always part of her holiday baking. Her time spent with her family was dearest of all. Anita was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, Robert L. "Bob" Mitchell; siblings, Hubert Abbott, Jewel Abbott, Hazel Wells, Fred Abbott, J.W. Abbott, Sequel Hadaway, Ruby Wells, and Tommy Abbott. Surviving are her sons, Robert L. Mitchell, Jr. and partner, Steve Kitchens, of Lawrenceville, David C. Mitchell and wife, Rebekah of Covington; grandchildren, Lauren Lariscy and husband, Matthew, Andrew Mitchell; sisters, Ethel Abbott Lister of Tucker, Alice Abbott Frix of Lawrenceville, Joy Abbott Murphy of Lithonia; many nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 1 o'clock, Friday, October 25, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home. A private interment will follow. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
