Andrew "Andy" Jones Hill, age 78, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 31, 2025, at his home in Lithonia, GA, due to complications arising from a heart attack and subsequent stroke which occurred just before Memorial Day 2024. Andy was born on March 8, 1947, in Lithonia to Fred and Emma Nell Hill. Andy and his high school sweetheart, Karen Turner, attended Lithonia High School and were married in 1964. They had five children and were together for 47 years until her sudden death in 2012.
From the age of 14, until he suffered the heart attack, Andy worked in a granite quarry at Arabia Mountain until he purchased the land from his uncle, Crawford Reagin and started Reagin Granite Company in Lithonia in 1972. His sons, Don and Shane, began working for him in the 1980s. Later his grandson, Drew, also joined them. He took pride in his work and was always quick to point out his rock when passing by it in a public place or when it was in the background of a TV news story. His rock can be seen across the Atlanta area, including Emory Hospital and the Arthur M. Blank Children's Hospital in Decatur, the governor's mansion, curbing around the Georgia State Capital building, Snellville Community Church, and too many others to name. In addition, his rock was shipped to and used in projects in Charleston and Hilton Head, South Carolina; Savannah, Georgia; Panama City Beach and Miami, Florida; Hartford, Connecticut; Highlands, North Carolina; as well as Maine and Indiana. His own home, built in 1980, displays this beautiful granite.
Andy enjoyed spending time with his family outdoors - in the woods and in "the swamp", and he spoke fluently in the language of the North American Wild Turkey. He also loved to spend time fishing on the rivers, lakes, and inshore saltwater. Cooking outdoors was another passion, smoking lots of meats and making barbeque and brunswick stew for many Reagin Family Reunions. He was known to have a wonderful garden every spring and summer with some of the best corn and tomatoes in the area.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Karen Turner Hill; and his brother, Freddy Hill. He is survived by his brother, Tony Hill; sisters, Nancy Barandon and Nelda (Andre) Champagne; daughters, Andra (Tony) Brischler and Angel (Jimmy) Shadrick; sons, Don, Shane (Kathy Davis), and Daniel (Kristen) Hill; and eleven grandchildren.
