Obituary

Alma Marie Kendall, age 80, of Lithonia, died October 26, 2022. She grew up and lived in DeKalb County. Marie was a member of Way of the Cross Baptist Church in Conyers and considered her pastor, Bro. Billy Coleman and the congregation to be her second family. "Sister Marie" as she was known, loved her church family. Marie worked as a school bus driver for DeKalb County for over 20 years. She loved the kids and they loved her. Marie also loved to cook and to sing, she had a passion for both and she did them both well. Her sweet potato pies were the best, but her fried squash and cornbread topped them all. Always a smile on her face, she was, as Bro. Billy described, "a saint." Marie never spoke an unkind word to anyone. She was generous and loved her God and her family and friends, but most of all, she loved her sweetheart and husband, Bobby, for 63 years. Each night she would get in bed, and they would share "Four Kisses". They would say: "Good-night" (with a kiss); "Love you" (with a kiss); "See you in the morning" (with a kiss); "First Thing" (ended with a kiss). They truly loved each other with such sweet passion, he was her world and she was his. Her grandchildren, Tyler and Kaitlyn, were apples of her eye. Just the mention of their names would bring a smile to her face. Marie was the best Mamaw any child could have, that role in her life made her very happy. She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy Lamar Kendall; parents, Win B. Bruce and Janie G. Adams; as well as her sister, Susie Ethridge; and brother, Forrest Bruce. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Bobby Kendall; daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Mike Peoples; grandchildren, Tyler and Kaitlyn Peoples; numerous nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law. Please let us say to our family and friends, "Thank you so much for all of your love and prayers through these difficult last few weeks and during this time of loss. There are no words to describe our gratitude for your heartfelt sympathies." Marie was special to so many, she was loved beyond words and will be greatly missed. Her life was a blessing and her memory was a treasure. A funeral service will be held 12 o'clock, noon, Saturday, October 29, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Rev. Billy Coleman officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 to 12:00 prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Melwood Cemetery. "Rest in Peace, Sweet Angel"
