Obituary

Allene Pless Burdette, age 97, of Lawrenceville, formerly of Conyers, died May 8, 2022. She was born in Cornelia, Georgia, to Emory and LaVelza Pless. Allene and her family moved to Atlanta when she was three years old where she grew up, graduated from Commercial High School, and married the love of her life, Joe Burdette. Allene played an active role in her children's education, where she served as the president of the PTA of Lakewood Elementary School and an Honorary Life Member of National Congress of Parents and Teachers. Allene enjoyed singing from the time she was a child where she was a member of the youth choir, Glee Club and performed solos and duets in the church choir. Allene was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Lithonia, where she was a teacher, director, planner of events, and participant in Young at Heart. She also was known for her sharp wit and humor which she used to imitate Minnie Pearl. Allene was an expert seamstress and crocheter, and she shared these items with her family and friends. Many were recipients of the church bulletin necklaces. After Joe retired, he and Allene would travel for over 20 years, with, the Dixielanders GMC motor home club, where they formed many friendships. She loved people well, and was a very involved and loving mother and grandmother. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, Joe Burdette; parents; and brother, Berlin Pless. Surviving are her daughter, Carol Plumlee and her husband, Gary, of Lilburn; son, Earl Burdette and his wife, Cheryl, of Cumming; brother, Rodney Pless and his wife, Sandy, of Staunton, VA; grandchildren, David Plumlee, Brian Burdette, Jennifer Burdette, Rebecca Baumann and her husband, Darren; great grandchildren, Landon, Milena, Westin, Brantley, Beau, Samantha, and Jessie; several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 2 o'clock, Sunday, May 15, in the chapel of Henry Funeral Home with Dr. Jim Martin and Rev. Bob Lindsay officiating. The interment will follow at Green Meadow Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1-2 prior to the service at the funeral home.
